SPOP is a community-based mental health agency that has served older adults for 33 years. As one of the only agencies in Manhattan to focus on the mental health needs of older people, SPOP assists the growing population of older people living in Manhattan to cope both with their mental health problems and with the day-to-day challenges of aging. SPOP’s mission is to enhance the quality of life of older adults and to foster their independent living through the delivery of comprehensive mental health and supportive services, advocacy and education. SPOP is a leader in the field of geriatric mental health. Recognition of SPOP’s work includes AARP 2000 Outstanding Achievement Award for the agency’s bereavement service (WPS), and the 2004 American Psychiatric Association Bronze Achievement Award and the New York State Coalition for the Aging 2003 Senior Services Achievement Award for clinic outreach services.
