Description
Built in 1910, the Scottdale Free Public Library serves thousands in Scottdale, East Huntingdon Township and surrounding communities in Westmoreland County and neighboring Fayette County (PA).
The library has outgrown its space and its board of directors embarked on an ambitious new building project: raising $1.5 million dollars.
This building project will triple its space to 9,000 square feet, provide a community room, handicapped facilities, offices, a larger children's room, a teen room, study room and adult reading lounge/coffee house. Other benefits include more computers, shelf space and parking.
The board purchased land with assistance from grants and eagerly awaits the day it can break ground, tentatively 2007 or 2008. The library currently leases a cramped, poorly-laid out facility and its lease expires in the next few years.
The community, the region and especially our children and the many underprivileged we serve will benefit from a new library building.
