Our nonprofit grassroots organization is building a skateboard park to provide the community’s children a drug, alcohol and weapon free environment. The park will allow our children an arena for physical activity, channel behavior and free time in a positive manner.
The aim of our project is to provide all of the youth in our and surrounding communities with an alternative sporting activity within an alcohol, drug and weapon free environment. The youth present on our Advisory Board are an instrumental part in all phases involved in the construction of the park, thus giving them a sense of ownership with the project.
The park will decrease the number of youth utilizing the streets for skateboarding. The park will increase positive peer-to-peer relationships under adult supervision.
The drug activity has increased within our community, especially with this target population. We would like to “give the youth” a safe environment where they can engage in this healthy activity.
