Description
The mission of SafeHouse is to empower survivors of domestic and sexual violence through support and advocacy and to educate the community to prevent future abuse. Founded in 1989 as a safe haven for victims of domestic violence, SafeHouse quickly recognized that access to safe emergency shelter may be only one step for a victim on her way to freedom from violence. Long-term efforts to address a survivor's future include a continuum of care that goes beyond crisis calls and emergency intervention. Major programs include emergency shelter, transitional housing, children’s services, community services and prevention education. SafeHouse, which operates 24 hours a day/365 days a year, provides a wide array of supportive service. including individual and group counseling, case management, life skills classes, court advocacy, sexual assault response, community education, violence prevention and children’s advocacy.
