The Safe Hollow Animal Sanctuary is a non-profit organization which was founded by Debbie Calicutt in the 1990s. Long County, GA, does not have an Animal Control or an Animal Shelter and many animals were being cruelly treated or abadoned on the side of the road, left for dead. Debbie Calicutt took it into her own hands to help as many of these homeless and "tossed" animals as she could in her own home. Now she works by herself, with the support of her family when they aren't working, to support over 20 dogs and 70 cats as well as fundraising, adoptions, and helping those in the community as well with their animals on the two acres of land bought specifically to help care for these animals. She works a part-time job just to help bring money in for the animals and runs the entire sanctuary on her meager paycheck and donations given by those who can support when possible.
