Safe & Sound is a crime-reduction initiative. Our vision: “Making Milwaukee neighborhoods safe places to work, live and raise families.”
We focus on the 21 highest-crime neighborhoods in Milwaukee. We fund non-profits such as youth-serving organizations, schools and faith-based organizations to provide Safe Places’ after-school programming from 3:00-9:00 p.m. when youth ages 10-19 are most likely to be victims or perpetrators of crime.
Our neighborhood organizers, Community Partners, connect residents with city services, help start and maintain block clubs, report drug and gang activity, building code violations and more.
Our tough law enforcement component dismantles drug-trafficking organizations and takes illegal guns off the street.
Our strategy, unique in the U.S. has had numerous independent evaluations. All evaluations have shown a greater reduction in violent felony crime in the neighborhoods we serve, than in the other city of Milwaukee neighborhoods.
