Description
(RBCS) opened its doors in September 2001 with the goal of providing a high-quality education and a safe haven for inner-city Philadelphia children. Founded by the family of the late Russell Byers, the School reflects Russell’s values of academic excellence, civic responsibility and community service. Today, the School serves 400 students, from four-year-old kindergarten through sixth grade, from 36 Philadelphia neighborhoods.
The RBCS is distinguished by its innovative curriculum, (ELOB), which is based on the principles of the well-known outdoor education program Outward Bound. The School operates under the following mission: to provide a rigorous education that cultivates self-assurance, love of fresh ideas, and especially, a sense of joy. Its mission to identify and attract the resources needed to increase educational opportunities for the diverse, predominately low-income students attending RBCS.
