Description
The purpose of RSVP is to create meaningful opportunities for persons 55 years of age and older to participate more fully in the life of the community through volunteer service. The program matches the skills and experience of this vital age group with the addressing of critical needs and issues within the community.
In 2008, nearly 1,200 senior volunteers gave more than 225,000 hours of service to 145 non-profit agencies throughout Pinellas County, which includes the communities of St. Petersburg, Largo, and Clearwater.
These remarkable numbers translate into $ 4.8 million in in-kind labor donations to area schools, day care centers, pre-schools, health care facilities, and a variety of other human service agencies.
Although partially funded with federal dollars, the program must raise 30% of its budget locally through the gifts of community-based friends and organizations.
