Description
Odyssey of the Mind is an activity at the RSU 57 school district in Maine, USA.. The Odyssey of the Mind program teaches students how to think divergently by providing open-ended problems that appeal to a wide range of interests that have no right or wrong answer. Students learn how to identify challenges and to work as a team to creatively solve those problems. They are free to express their ideas and suggestions without fear of criticism. The creative problem-solving process rewards thinking "outside of the box." Students develop teambuilding skills by working in groups of as many as seven students per team. Students who participate in this program learn that no challenge is ever so large that a solution can't be found by working together. RSU 57 uses fund raising to help offset the many of the costs of OotM including registration fees for schools and teams, cost of supplies and travel expenses to tournaments at the state and world level.
