Description
Ring Dog Rescue identifies healthy, adoptable dogs scheduled for euthanasia in metro-Richmond animal shelters and adopts them into the organization’s temporary custody. Ring Dog Rescue provides the dogs with temporary housing (in kennels and foster homes), food, medical care, and other necessary rehabilitative services. Once a dog has been spayed/neutered, fully treated by a veterinarian, and temperament evaluated if necessary, Ring Dog Rescue locates a responsible owner and adopts the dog into a permanent home. Ring Dog Rescue currently focuses its efforts on dogs of what are commonly known as the “bully” breeds, including Pit Bull, Boxer, Mastiff, American Staffordshire, and Bulldog mixes among others. In the future, the organization hopes to develop programs and disperse educational materials to increase public awareness of the problem of dog fighting and irresponsible dog ownership in the Richmond area, and ways in which these problems may be addressed.
