Read Seed

about

Read Seed is committed to improving child literacy in N.Carolina through advocacy, intervention and partnerships to provide low-income children books. With HUD Housing Authorities, RSI gives new, age-appropriate books to every 0 to 7 year old resident. Decades of research confirms the importance of children having ‘books in the home’ to significantly impact academic performance regardless of race, ethnicity, and family socioeconomic status. RSI gives books to thousands of children each year. Through partnerships with child services providers, RSI outreach allows books for children outside of public housing. Addressing special community needs, RSI brings literacy and books to our growing Hispanic population. The expected outcome of book ownership is school readiness for academic success. Limited staff, working Board and committed volunteers help reduce overhead expenses, only $13 per child for a full year of great books. RSI operates in three NC counties and hopes to expand statewide
