Description
Reach out and Read promotes early reading for low income children ages five and under. Our mission is to make early reading a part of daily pediatric care. So at every doctor's visit, providers 1. Read to the child from a new, developmentally appropriate book
2. Give the child a new book and give their parents advice on how to interact with their child around books and reading so that kids grow up loving books and in this way, become prepared to succeed in school,
3. Provide literacy-rich waiting rooms where, often, volunteer readers read to children and role model interactive reading techniques for their parents.
We serve thousands of children in 430 clinics and hospitals throughout CA, from San Diego to the Oregon border.
