Founded in 1953 by a dedicated group of parents who wanted a quality educational experience for their children with disabilities, services began in a church basement with a volunteer teacher. Rauch, Inc. was the first school for children with developmental disabilities in the state of Indiana. Rauch was also the first entity in Southern Indiana to be funded by the Crusade for Children. Rabbi Joseph Rauch, an original Crusade panelist, was instrumental in assisting Rauch to obtain funding in 1958 for the Charlestown Road site.
Today, Rauch serves approximately 650 children, adults, and families in Southern Indiana and Greater Louisville from five (5) sites.
Rauch's mission is to support people with disabilities through services designed to promote individual choices, growth and well being, while encouraging a community environment that acknowledges the value and contribution of all people.
