Description
Rainbow Animal Assisted Therapy is a not-for-profit, volunteer organization with nearly 200 registered therapy dogs that help people, especially children with improving their health, independence and quality of life.
The oldest and largest organization of its type in the Chicago metropolitan area, Rainbow has developed and implemented animal assisted therapy programs for children with emotional, mental and/or physical disabilities in Chicago and its suburbs at hospitals, schools, libraries, residential centers, park districts and other facilities that service the needs of children.
Each Rainbow program is a goal-directed intervention and is designed to provide motivation and meet specific needs. Rainbow dogs interact with people in a therapeutic setting; their skills are used to meet the needs of the participants, utilizing the mutually nurturing relationship between people and animals.
