Project S.H.A.R.E. is an interfaith cooperative effort, begun in 1985, involving over 50 local congregations, schools, and civic organizations. Contributions of food, money, and volunteerism provide essential basic assistance to more than 750 families each month. Our mission statement: In response to God’s call to love one another, we provide food, clothing, nutritional education, and access to programs designed to improve the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being for those in need, doing so in a compassionate environment that serves to strengthen this community.
Boxes contain approximately 50 nutritious food items; one week’s groceries for a family of four. The food, free to each family, costs SH.A.R.E. about $12/box (retail value $130). Teams of volunteers deliver food to some 90 homebound individuals and families. . To be eligible, individuals must reside in the Carlisle area and have an income below 150% of the federal poverty level.
