ProjectItTakesaVillage, Inc. (PiTaV, Inc.) borrows from a combination of proverbs whose rough translation is “It takes a village to raise a child.”
At PiTaV, Inc. we believe that, like most African communities, Zimbabwe’s most valuable resource is its human capital. Therefore, we are committed to improving the quality of life of school age children impacted by HIV/AIDS. As a tax-exempt 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit organization we serve as added support for the already overburdened Ministry of Social Services to intercept the complicated cycle of poverty. If those of us who are capable remain apathetic and silent this cycle and its ramifications will continue to devastate communities.
PiTaV, Inc’s mission is threefold. Currently and in this short term, we support the material needs of children who already are in the homes of their caregivers. In the long term, we will grow to levels where we’ll also support those children who have been rendered homeless and familyless by the epidemic. To this end we are dedicated to providing vulnerable children with financial support towards their education so they too can be placed in positions of power to impact the world in a positive way.
Thirdly, we provide a forum for productive, provocative and engaging conversation regarding the collective and global state of children of African descent. We therefore aspire to ultimately inspire a generation of children some of whom have lost their innocence as they have had to watch their parents die.
We also aspire to stand as a transparent avenue for not only acknowledging the scholarly, social, political work provided by those dedicated to the lives of vulnerable children, but present an opportunity for any member of society willing to participate.
