Mission:
Prairie Crossing Charter School is a child-centered community of learners. We use an ecological, integrated, experiential approach to learning, which utilizes unique environmental and community resources. We develop students who demonstrate environmental stewardship and responsible, global citizenship.
Purpose:
• Prairie Crossing Charter School is an innovative public elementary school chartered with an environmental curriculum.
• It is the only public or private school in the State of Illinois with such a charter.
• The school was started in 1999 to address issues of educational choice within the suburban public education system. The school’s charter was renewed by the State of Illinois for the second 5years (2004-2009)
• In 2004, PCCS was one of the 288 schools the State of Illinois recognized as an “Illinois Honor Roll School”.
