Description
The Portage County (Wisconsin) Sheriff's Office runs a K-9 program using donations and monies obtained during fund raisers, relying on very few tax dollars. The dog and handler are responsible for conducting specialized law enforcement missions, such as drug searches, assistance with school inspections, search and rescue, violent suspect apprehension, missing items/persons, handler protection, and other duties throughout the county. The team is available to any emergency response agency in Portage County, school districts and related entities, and neighboring jurisdictions. The Sheriff’s Office operates the only canine unit in Portage County.
