Description
The mission of the Ponseti International Association is to improve the treatment of children born with clubfoot through education, research, and improved access to care. The association is a not for profit organization named for Ignacio Ponseti, M.D., professor emeritus of orthopaedics and rehabilitation at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. Dr Ponseti has developed the highly effective (95% correction rate) conservative Ponseti method of clubfoot treatment. 5 plaster casts, 3 weeks, 1 life saved. Dr Jose Morcuende, the president of the association has trained more than 1000 providers in over 30 countries in this method. The average cost of treating a child with clubfeet in a developing country is 135$. Only 135$ can save a child from a life of disability. One child with clubfoot is born every three minutes in the world.
