Planet Drum Foundation (PDF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit ecological educational organization based in San Francisco, California that has been active in the San Francisco Bay Area and worldwide since 1973. For over thirty nine years PDF has had a unique role in promoting awareness of and activities that pertain to bioregions. To promote truly sustainable strategies for inhabitation of the earth, PDF seeks to enhance the intimate connection between people and their bioregions or “life-places.”

A bioregion is defined as a distinct geographical area with coherent and interconnected plant and animal communities and natural systems (often defined by a watershed), and the cultural values that human residents have developed for living in harmony with these natural systems.
