The Piano Outreach of New York ("PONY") is an outgrowth of the Piano School of New York. Since its founding in 2001, the Piano School has embarked on a mission to establish group piano classes in public, parochial and nursery schools throughout New York City, creating an opportunity for all children to become curious about music through fun yet educational surroundings. PONY’s mission is to combat the loss of music education in New York City schools and provide high quality piano instruction to children from underprivileged families. To carry out its mission, PONY offers scholarships to deserving children that eliminate 50% to 100% the cost of their group lessons. In many schools, The Piano School's after-school lessons are the only exposure to music students receive. PONY was founded in direct response to the needs witnessed in many of the lower-income neighborhoods where Piano School lessons take place. Families of many students interested in music lessons unfortunately could not afford the modest tuition fees of $16 per class. As a solution, PONY was established in order to provide financial assistance for group piano and music instruction to all children who come to us in need. PONY was incorporated in 2003 and has been approved by the IRS as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. As of early 2012, Pony has raised more than $324,000 for music scholarships.
