Description
PROP's Senior Volunteer Programs (SVP) offers diverse opportunities for seniors to volunteer with children and families with special and exceptional needs. Currently three programs are sponsored by SVP--Family Friends, Senior Companions and Foster Grandparents.
All volunteers attend pre-service a 20 hour pre-service orientation, attend monthly In-services for continuing education, and receive assistance with meals, travel and an annual physical, recognition and support.
Over 150 senior volunteers are providing support to children and elders with special needs at locations in Cumberland and York Counties. The placements include nonprofit daycare programs, Head Start centers, public school classrooms, long-term residential programs, Maine Medical Center and in homes with families with children and elders with special needs.
