Located in Southwest Harbor, Maine, Pemetic Elementary School is a K-8 school under stress from declining enrollment and rising costs. Currently a top notch school with stellar performance, the ability to continue at this level, let alone build into something more, is threatened by community pressure to lower property taxes by considering budget cuts in curriculum and staffing. In an era of increasing government mandates and the ever increasing population of special needs students, the ability to provide a high quality education to each and every child, whatever their need and ability, will not long endure without strong, let alone adequate, financial resources.
