Formed by artist Janis Ian in honor of her mother, Pearl, who returned to college in her 40's while fighting Multiple Sclerosis. The Pearl Foundation endows scholarships at various higher education institutions geared toward returning students. There are no restrictions beyond that. To date we have given away more than $750,000.00!!
Funds are raised through sale of Janis Ian merchandise, a concert "tip jar", and donations via Paypal, Goodsearch, Ebay Giving Works, and checks, as well as items on the Pearl Foundation pages at http://www.pearlfoundation.com that are marked "Charitable". Janis Ian also does "Living Room Concerts", and 100% of the monies paid/raised go directly to the Pearl Foundation. 100% of the gross monies raised during our annual "White sale" in January goes to the Pearl Foundation (less actual credit card and store fees).
As of 2014 our annual costs have never exceeded $1,500.00. No one draws a salary, no one receives payment beyond yearly tax preparation costs and government mandated charges.
We are a public foundation, as chartered by the Internal Revenue Service. Contributions are tax deductible within the limits of the law. We welcome interesting ideas for fund-raising (see the Pearl Foundation and Janis Ian websites!)
