PRC’s mission is to protect and restore rivers, their watersheds, and native aquatic species. High quality freshwater habitats are being degraded at a rate greater even than tropical rainforests — they are one of the two most threatened ecosystem classes on earth (the other being mangroves). But protection for our wild rivers and the last, best habitat for endangered aquatic species is being whittled away. Our goal is to bring the freshwater ecosystem crisis to the fore and stop the continued decline of salmon, trout and other native aquatic species.
PRC’s watershed conservation programs are designed to advance the science and economics of river and watershed protection by producing scientifically sound materials for relevant policy debates, and illustrating the benefits, both ecological and economic, of protecting and restoring freshwater ecosystems.
