Open Door Community House, Inc., is a 70-year old non-profit agency serving the basic needs of the homeless and low income people of the Columbus,Georgia, area. Open Door provides free after-school care and summer camp to underprivileged children and youth, offers in-house parenting classes, homeless women case management, a unique showering program for the unsheltered homeless, a senior adult ministry, and the oldest continuously operating women's transition home in the area. In 2005, over 40,000 persons were served with information, referrals, food, shelter, clothing, education, and support. Open Door was chosen to be the Red Cross clothing distribution center for Hurricane Katrina evacuees and served over 1200 persons with clothing and toys.
