Description

OSO’s mission is to provide a hands-on educational experience to encourage the protection and preservation of our living sea and communities. The program engages 4th - 6th grade youth in school groups with lessons in navigation, sailing, conservation, and marine science, integrated into an education program. OSO’s newly renovated education center was completed at the beginning of the school year and is providing a modern secure space for teaching which is a perfect complement to the Team O’Neill catamaran as a learning platform. Our curriculum is aligned with California State and Federal education standards in science and mathematics. In December 2004 the program received the California Governor’s Environmental and Economic Leadership Award in Children’s Environmental Education and in May 2005 we received the Conservation Champion Award from Senator Barbara Boxer.
