One Million Lights' mission is to improve the daily lives of adults and children in rural parts of the world by distributing solar lights to schools, children and adults in order to improve the opportunity for children in rural communities to study and learn. Our goal is to distribute one million eco-friendly, solar-powered LEDs to schools, families, and communities. One Million Lights seeks to use innovative, green technology to promote prosperity and remove obstacles from the daily lives of rural and developing communities.
While we take electricity for granted, it is a luxury for 1.6 billion people around the world. In some cases over half the earnings of a family may go towards buying unhealthy and air-polluting kerosene. Once the sun sets, they work and study in the dim light of unhealthy kerosene lamps. Solar lighting allows children to study safely at night and saves a large amount of a family's income, helping communities break out of poverty.
