Description
The Old Fort Western Fund raises money in support of social studies-related (history, citizenship, economics and geography) K-12 programs at the National Historic Landmark Old Fort Western in Augusta Maine, and in public school classrooms across the State of Maine. These programs fill the void in social studies teaching and learning left by the absence of social studies standards in No Child Left Behind and by dramatic budget cuts in state support for public education in Maine. At risk is citizenship training and preparation for an entire generation of Maine students.
