Description
As the Oklahoma City Zoological Park's (Zoo) non-profit organization, the Oklahoma Zoological Society (OZS) was created to support and promote the Zoo and its four purposes of education, conservation, zoological research, and recreation. OZS completes this commitment through membership drives, annual fundraising, capital campaigns, marketing and public relations. With 16,000+ Zoofriends member families, OZS works closely with the Zoo in raising funds for special programs, exhibits and needs, and is governed by a volunteer board of directors. The annual financial operations are unique among Oklahoma City non-profit organizations. Every contribution to OZS goes directly to the Zoo to fund its ongoing programs. The cost of administering OZS and the costs of fundraising are met through its membership program. Since its founding in 1954, OZS has provided the Zoo with almost $18 million in direct support.
