Description
Ohio Valley Voices (OVV) is a nonprofit early intervention program for children who are deaf or hearing-impaired. Our mission is to teach our children to speak and to understand when others speak to them. Our long-term goal is to successfully mainstream our students into the hearing world.
OVV was formed in 1999 when a group of local parents were motivated enough to establish a program for their own deaf children. They knew that an oral education could give their children many more opportunities, but no oral program existed anywhere in the region. In fact, several families from the Cincinnati area had relocated to other parts of the country so their children could attend oral schools. The demand for quality oral deaf education in our region is great. Because of new mandates requiring all infants to be screened for hearing loss, approximately 450 children in Ohio alone will be diagnosed as deaf or hearing-impaired in the next year.
