Oaklawn staff is committed to teaching the whole child, mentally, physically, and spiritually. We spend time not only building relationships with our students but also with their families. We need to know about their lives to be able to teach them best. The teacher spends time giving individual lessons and observing the rate of success and then either moves on with the next lesson or continues to guide in an area until it is mastered.
When the goal is to bring success in every area of learning and not to pass a test it is amazing how every student exceeds expectations. The Montessori Method was created to succeed with any student regardless of their individual learning style. This is done by having lessons that allow students to interact with as many senses as possible (sight, sound, touch etc.) The teacher also must look beyond purely academic success as the measure of success.
