Description
In 1988, the Michigan legislature passed a law known as the "Community Dispute Resolution Act." Interested citizen groups sought and received approval from the State Court Administrative Office in Lansing to receive grant funds to serve the public by opening Community Dispute Resolution Centers. OMC mediated its first dispute successfully in May 1990 and since then we have grown to mediate 2,800 disputed cases in the year 2002. More important we have expanded our services beyond mediating and conciliating all types of disputes. Several times each year we offer a 40-hour Civil Court Mediator Training Class (approved by the Michigan State Court Administrative Office), continuing mediator education seminars, advanced skills workshop, Bully-Proofing, peer mediation and conflict resolution training in schools. OMC sponsors and brings nationally acclaimed mediation experts to Michigan to speak and enhance the knowledge of professionals working or interested in ADR.
