The Oak Park Area Lesbian and Gay Association (OPALGA) has been recognized for over 20 years as the voice of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community in suburban Chicagoland. We represent a place for like-minded people to come together and experience a real sense of community involvement. Since its inception in 1989, OPALGA has become one of the largest community-based, multipurpose lesbian and gay membership organizations in Illinois.
OPALGA’s mission is to improve the quality of life and empower LGBT residents of the area through communication, education, participation, celebration and understanding, thereby incorporating our unique strengths and values into everyday life. OPALGA strives to foster a community-wide understanding of the issues that LGBT people face through direct outreach and interaction with local community organizations.
