Description
The Nuns of the Third Order of St. Dominic, also known as the Dominican Sisters of Great Bend, Kansas, respond to God’s call in traditional and contemporary ways. Early members of the order spent their hours in teaching, nursing, prayer and religious contemplation. Today’s socially active Dominicans can also be found counseling the underprivileged, pasturing in rural parishes, supervising construction of a solar greenhouse in their community’s permaculture project, and ministering in holistic medicine, home health care, and chemical dependency, to name a few. The heart of the Dominican vocation is preaching, and Dominican women rely on the spoken Word to share the Good News in prayer, song and liturgy, and to wield its message as a weapon against suffering and oppression of the poor.
