The Northwest NJ Community Action Program, Inc., NORWESCAP, was created in 1965 as part of the “War on Poverty.” Since then, the agency has provided a variety of direct client services to the low income. 200 employees are dedicated to the mission of, “Fighting Poverty. Creating Opportunities. Changing Lives.”
NORWESCAP has an annual operating budget is 22 million dollars with an administrative cost of less than five cents per dollar. The portfolio of services include programs in the area of emergency assistance, shelter, food, employment and economic building programs along with other programs that are more commonly known such as Head Start and the Women, Infant, Children's (WIC) Supplemental Food Program.
For more than forty years the agency has been fighting the war on poverty. The agency continues to bring new services and programs to the changing needs of the community in an effort to end poverty.
