Description
The NCSILC is a federally-mandated council that represents the interests of people with disabilities across North Carolina. Council members are appointed by the Governor and a majority must be people with disabilities.
The main purpose of the NCSILC is to jointly develop, sign, and execute the State Plan for Independent Living (SPIL) with the state's Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services (DVRS) and Division of Services for the Blind (DSB). The NCSILC, DVRS, and DSB are equal partners in carrying out the SPIL.
The NCSILC monitors, reviews, and evaluates the implementation of the State Plan. The NCSILC also works with the Centers for Independent Living (CILs) in North Carolina to assist individuals with disabilities live independently in the community.
