Description
The New Mexico Friends of Foster Children Fund is a volunteer-driven project of the NM Child Abuse & Neglect Citizen Review Board. New Mexico’s foster children are its most vulnerable due to their exposure to abuse & neglect, which often includes exposure to substance & sexual abuse, homelessness, mental illness & more. The Fund provides concrete benefits to New Mexico’s foster children in the form of awards for athletic & artistic lessons, camp fees, tutoring, bikes, yearbooks & more. Awards purchase products or services intended to promote normalcy & positive development for foster children. Each award is reinvested into New Mexico’s economy in the form of purchased goods & services. Finally, the Fund’s awards have the unexpected benefit of increasing morale for foster parents & social workers by demonstrating the communities’ commitment to foster children. Awards are granted for products & services not funded by the State or other programs. No other organization meets this need.
