Description
Neighbors exist to enrich children, empower parents and encourage community through Rise & Shine Freedom school. 50 children grades Kindergarten -12th grade, whom we call scholars, benefit from 1:1 and 1:5 academic mentoring, high expectations, servant leadership development and a literacy rich culturally relevant curriculum that fosters critical thinking, conflict resolution and social action. Scholars also benefit from servant leadership, financial literacy, incentives for academic and citizenship acheivement, scholarship savings and college goal planning. Ten ecumenical teams of volunteers and the AAUW promote community bridge building by participating in the Damascus Road Anti-racism Process Training and serve as advocates for children and families.
