Neediest Kids is a vital part of the greater Washington, DC area’s social safety net. When a teacher, social worker, or an administrator in any one of seven area school jurisdictions sees one of their students has a critical need - whether it's a need for a warm winter coat, a pair of shoes that fit, eyeglasses, basic school supplies, clothes, medicines or even a visit to the dentist, Neediest Kids enables that student to be helped immediately - with no red tape.
In addition, Neediest Kids provides tens of thousands of dollars in college scholarships every year for disadvantaged but worthy high school seniors seeking a career in education.
Since its inception in 1972, Neediest Kids has distributed over $3 million in cash and arranged for the donation of more than $4 million in goods and services, so that thousands of school children could have a better chance to stay in school, get their education, and avoid the cycle of poverty.
