The National Lawyers Guild was established in 1937 as the first racially integrated bar association. Today, the Guild is an organization of progressive lawyers, law students, legal workers and jail house lawyers, working "in the service of the people to the end that human rights shall be regarded as more sacred than property interests." - Preamble to the NLG Constitution
