Description
National Families in Action (NFIA) is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization that was founded in Atlanta Georgia in 1977. NFIA’s mission is to enable youth to reach their full potential by helping parents prevent the use of addictive drugs among children and adolescents, using strategies based on science and law.
The organization has two main projects.
It conducts the Addiction Studies Program for Journalists and State Legislatures in collaboration with Wake Forest University School of Medicine and several other univeristies that are conducting research on the impact of drugs on the brain.
NFIA is implementing and testing a pilot program called the Parent Corps in 20 schools in 9 states. The Parent Corps is building a leadership corps of parents who work out of their children's schools, one Parent Leader per school.
