The MuttShack Animal Rescue Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to disaster response and preparedness. Following Hurricane Katrina, MuttShack and its volunteers established the only fully-functioning medical care facility in the City of New Orleans, where it rescued and provided critical care to over three thousand animals. All were either reunited with their families or were placed in permanent loving homes. MuttShack was the recipient of numerous awards at the local, state and national level for its work in Louisiana.
MuttShack now has the responsibility of assuring the safe evacuation and welfare of over 12,000 animals in Louisiana should its Governor declare a State of Emergency. It also provides certified (military-like) training for animal rescuers and disaster responders everywhere through its website and through training exercises and seminars.
