Description
The Museum of Wisconsin Art (MWA) is one of only 29 regional art Museums in the United States and is the only art museum in Wisconsin dedicated exclusively to Wisconsin art and artists. The MWA was founded in 1961 as the West Bend Gallery of Fine Art and initially established to house and exhibit the work of Milwaukee native, German-trained Carl Von Marr. Von Marr's opus magnum is The Flaggellants was completed in Munich between 1885 and 1889. The work measures an enormous 14’ x 23’ and is one of the largest oil paintings on canvas framed in the U.S.
