The Multicultural Leadership Institute, Inc. (MLI) is a private, non-profit 501(c )(3) corporation.
MLI's mission is to provide statewide (CT)leadership through multicultural education, information exchange processes, development and implementation of cultural competency standards and the fostering of knowledge and skills to enhance service delivery systems and communities.
MLI was established in 1997, in response to the State Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services’ (DMHAS) efforts “to address the issues of need, accessibility and appropriateness of substance abuse treatment, intervention, and prevention services for ethnic and minority individuals and groups in Connecticut.” Current programs use comprehensive definitions (ethnicity, age, gender, sexual/ affectional orientation, socio-economic status, langauge, spirituality,ability/disability status, etc.), for teh sapectrum of services.
