Description
The mission of Motivate Our Minds is to build academic proficiency, enhance self-esteem, develop character, develop contributing members of society, and instigate a safe and non-threatening environment for children in grades one through eight. Raushanah Shabazz and Mary Dollison, wanted to make a difference in the lives of children who lived in their neighborhood. Realizing the importance of a good education, the two began an after school tutoring program in Dollison's living room specifically for those students having difficulty in school. After a short time, the program, nicknamed MOM. as an acronym, began to outgrow its humble beginnings. Nearly 450 students are served by this program each year. The MOM's staff takes a student centered approach trying to help each individual reach his or her own potential by helping them realize that they are truly loveable and capable.
