Description
The mission of Monday Evening Concerts is to promote and present music of all periods, with an emphasis on the new and the recent past, performed by artists of the highest caliber. For over 60 years Monday Evening Concerts has not only made an invaluable contribution to the musical life of Los Angeles, but has gained international admiration for eclectic programming of music often very new, sometimes quite old and always uniquely stimulating. It is Los Angeles’ second oldest continuing musical organization after the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and one of the first organizations in its early days to consistently recognize the music of Los Angeles’ new émigré composers such as Arnold Schoenberg and Igor Stravinsky, and programmed the Americans Aaron Copland, Charles Ives, Charles Griffes—setting a tradition of attention to American composers.
