Our History and Our Goal
In 1998, the United States Senate declared Tartan Day (April 6), a federal holiday. In 2001, Governor Holden declared it a Missouri holiday, and in 2002, Mayor York declared every April 6 as Tartan Day in St. Charles.
The purpose of Tartan Day is to honor Scots and Scottish Americans and their contribution to the formation of the United States. Our own Declaration of Independence was modeled after the Scottish Declaration of Arboath which was signed April 6, 1320 and that is why we celebrate Tartan Day on April 6.
