Description
Midland Need to Read, a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization, serves adult learners in Midland County, Texas who want to improve their literacy skills. Literacy skills include reading, vocabulary improvement, critical thinking, comprehension, writing, and speaking English. Midland Need to Read provides five hours of training for volunteer tutors who then meet twice a week for one hour with adult learners who use Midland Need to Read books, workbooks, and materials to achieve their personal literacy goals. Literacy goals may include reading to children, obtaining a library card, obtaining a job or better job, passing the GED test or a English language proficiency test, writing letters, reading the newspaper or the Bible, or obtaining a driver’s license. Adult learners set a goal or goals that can be achieved through improved literacy.
