Description
Matthew Whaley School is located next to the gardens of the Governor's Palace in Colonial Williamsburg. In 1870, a two-room brick building called "The Matty School" was built on the Palace Green. In 1929, Colonial Williamsburg purchased the property for the reconstruction of the Governor's Palace and construction began on our school in 1929. Matthew Whaley School has a unique history not only in the community of Williamsburg, but with The College of William & Mary. We continue our collaboration with the college in the training of teachers. Their students also volunteer many hours of service in the form of tutoring and sponsoring after school clubs. Our staff is dedicated and caring and our community is very supportive. In addition to our experienced teachers, we have trained instructional assistants who focus on individual and small group needs.
